We were lucky to get a table even without a reservation, since someone cancelled shortly before closing. The veal with cheese and the goat were both incredible. We ate so much we skipped dessert, though we did have cheesecake, then took a romantic walk through the village. Friendly people, relaxed atmosphere, and lovely service. Definitely book ahead.

We went for supper tonight, and I’m reviewing the restaurant, not the hotel. The chicken with mushroom risotto was a huge portion for two, with great mushrooms from the mountains nearby. The waiter’s English wasn’t great, but he was so nice that it was fine. They had a kids’ meal of chicken and fries too. The salad was pretty small. It came to 29€ for two adults and a kid.

After a long hike, we were looking forward to a hearty dinner. We arrived at exactly 1900 hrs, by the church bells, and found the owners’ family finishing their own meal in the dining room. The cook told us to come back in about five minutes, and seconds later we were back out in Manteigas, in the dark and cold. That didn’t feel like hospitality. We went elsewhere and were welcomed straight away.

They had a scheduled restaurant closure on the night we stayed, but the hotel itself was an enjoyable place to visit. The bedroom was clean and spacious, and they had a secure lockup for our bicycles. It’s a friendly, family-run place on the edge of charming Mantiegas.

The staff were super friendly and hospitable when we walked in, even though we weren’t official hotel guests. Good value for money too, and a half portion is enough for one person. They also have vegetarian options.
