Harbour Inn Design Townhouse

Joanna was a huge help when we arrived on a busy, sunny Sunday and couldn’t fit our car, which had a top box, into the nearby garages. She called around, reserved us a space at the fish dock and walked us there to translate. It only cost a few euros a day. The guesthouse is in the heart of Matosinhos, next to the beach and a short walk from the tram into Porto. Our clean family room had plenty of space for two adults and our children, aged seven and four, who slept in a separate area. Breakfast at the Eurostars hotel next door was included and was great. We had a lovely stay and will recommend it to people visiting the Porto area.

The breakfast is free and served in the restaurant downstairs. It’s simple but good, with omelettes, bread, ham, cereal, jam, coffee and orange juice. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with air conditioning. We had a spacious, lovely mini suite on the first floor, and the staff, especially Paula, were friendly and helpful. It’s a great hotel near the beach and town. The price is above average, but I felt it was well worth it.

It’s right by the beach, with local transport a minute away and a really nice restaurant included. The rooms are beautifully designed, have AC and come with everything you might need. This is a lovely boutique hotel, cared for down to the details, with wonderful service and warm people running it. Highly recommend staying here.

The location in Matoshinos was perfect, very close to the beach and loads of restaurants. We also liked the comfortable bed. But the room was unbelievably small. It was listed as a superior on Booking, apparently by mistake, and we couldn’t even stand up straight. Only one of us could fit in the bathroom at a time, and the shower leaked quite badly. I couldn’t have stayed there longer than one night. I haven’t seen the other rooms, and based on other reviews they may be lovely, but make sure you don’t get the small one. I also prefer a more hands-off check-in. Portuguese people are super friendly, but when you’re tired and just want to settle in, a 20-minute conversation with the person checking you in is the last thing you want. I like hotels to be friendly while keeping some distance.
