São Francisco Guesthouse

The location is a big plus, with public transport, Lidl, McDonald’s, and a very good Bakery / Cafe right underneath the Hotel all nearby. It's close to the beach too, where there are some nice activities. We stayed three days, three of us in a somewhat cramped room. The window lets you see straight into the bathroom. Still, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were cleaned every day without fail. Cheap and cheerful, and great for the price and location.

We stayed one night in a two-bedroom, two-bath unit and really enjoyed it. The rooms were large and very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the location was great. They were helpful and let us check in quite early.

The apartment price was reasonable, and having a private bathroom was a plus. The reception being in a different building was a bit confusing. I was working in the bedroom when the maid came in twice without knocking. She saw me and didn't even apologize.

The room was so tiny I spent the night facing my claustrophobic demons. We had prepaid for two nights, and watching The Law and Order channel, plus sedating myself with Super Bock, got me through until sunrise. It was clean and modern, with great air-con and TV channels in English. There's at least one bigger room in the turret with a table and chairs, where you can stand and walk around. People exaggerate the metro shaking, it wasn't that bad. Eat at Thamel by the beach, two blocks away. Check-in is off-site at the Del Rei (?), a stone's throw north. There's no staff at Sao Francisco, but the Del Rei has a front desk.
