We only found this place near the end of our trip, so we couldn't stay here, but now we have a reason to come back. We'd been to another winery earlier, and our guide suggested exploring this side of the country. My husband tracked this place down, and it was absolutely worth it. The views, the wine, and the service were all lovely. The food was fantastic too, with lots of homemade things. We bought wine to enjoy at home, and we're already looking forward to another visit, this time hopefully staying at the hotel.

The staff are what make this Quinta shine. They were warm and attentive, treated us like family, and clearly love working there. They can also tell you the lovely story of the owners. There are plenty of things to do, from a river boat and kayaking to the pool, spa, e-bikes, wine tour, greenhouse dinner, and chefs table. Definitely try the chefs table, the food and drinks were amazing. We spent two days here during a 21 day trip through Portugal and Spain, and those days were our favorite part. The architecture is striking, and the thought put into every detail shows. Everything was immaculate. The one letdown was the indoor pool. It has the look and size of a hot tub in a place with such a spa feel, but it's actually a small pool and never gets warm. Since the weather was chilly, a hot tub would've been really relaxing. The rest of the experience more than made up for that. The Quinta keeps working on improvements and adding new ideas each year, and I highly recommend it.

The wine tasting with head wine maker Pedro was a real highlight. He knows an incredible amount about Portuguese and global wine history, and you can tell he cares deeply about making wines people enjoy drinking. We toured the grounds, tasted nine Quinta wines, and talked for hours. I could have stayed even longer. The Reserve Rose, De Familia Red, and Valley of Mistakes Red were our favorites, though every wine we tried was very good or better. The food was another standout. The chef's farm-to-table menu leaned into vegetables and Portuguese flavors, used produce from the gardens outside our window, and still had meat options. The chef's table was intimate, delicious, and a lot of fun. We can't wait to see head chef Miguel and his kitchens again. His aunt Maria handled breakfast and was so sweet. I arrived feeling sick after eating bad food in Porto, and both Maria and the dinner staff looked after me. They brought soup when I couldn't manage the chef's menu on our first night and gave me plenty of breakfast choices. Ines met us on arrival and followed up on Whatsapp to confirm our activities. She was easy to work with and accommodating. Every staff member we met was just as attentive, though I wish I could remember all their names. Many are related, and the place has a real family feeling. They were proud of what they've built, and rightly so. Our room was well equipped and tidied several times a day. Most rooms have a private outdoor space overlooking the valley, and we made full use of our patio. The many patios are also perfect for sitting and taking in the scenery. We came by Uber from Porto. As we arrived, the driver whistled and murmured, "I have found paradise." He had it right. The setting is breathtaking, and the staff, food, and wine make it easy to spend the day enjoying the Douro valley views. My wife and I have traveled widely and stayed in plenty of five-star hotels, but Quinta de Sao Bernardo was our favorite stay. We had a perfect visit and are already planning to return. I recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the Duoro valley. There are still so many activities we want to try next time, and we'd love to stay longer. Thank you so much, Quinta de Sao Bernardo!

I worked in hospitality growing up, and I can confidently say Diago and Marcella have made something remarkable here. The landscape and property are stunning, and the rooms are comfortable, quiet, and clean. The restaurant was incredible, with some of the best food I've ever had. We also loved the wines and had a memorable tour and tasting with the wine maker. What stood out most was the service. Everyone working there was wonderful, and I'm especially grateful to Renata for helping make our honeymoon so special. I've traveled quite a bit, and this is my favorite place. We'll definitely return someday.

Walking through the vineyards with the valley all around you is amazing. This little farmhouse is a gem, and the whole place feels beautiful and quaint, right at the start of the duoro valley. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, with every person attentive and kind. Getting to know them was a highlight. Chef Miguel's table-side dinner was a 10/10, and the wine pairings let us try a lovely range of rose, red, white, and port wines. Breakfast and lunch were fresh and delicious.
