The apartments themselves are roomy and comfortable, and the location is great. But the management is appalling and, in my view, dishonest. The lower-floor units have reportedly been on sale for some time to repay debt to Millenium BCP. Investors who bought them seem to have been badly let down, and are withdrawing the apartments from the rental pool because Park Algar is allegedly adjusting rental profits to leave owners with virtually no return. This has apparently been going on for years. I hope the apartments are eventually taken out of the rental pool, the Tourism board of Portugal cancels the Touristic Exploration Licence, and the local Câmara Municipal requires them to be licensed again as habitation or alojamento local. I wouldn’t book through the hotel for a stay in Portimão. I’d look for a private rental instead. The management company isn’t respecting the licence, so I don’t see why the owners would either.

I’m still in a dispute with them, and there’s been no accountability or refund. I’m taking it to court. They made racist and ableist comments to my friends, including telling my Black friends not to bring their “Afro self” to breakfast, even though they were dressed appropriately. Other guests were in robes and slippers. My disabled friend waited hours for her room to be ready and was nearly left collapsing. Manuel A told her to sleep on the floor. The hotel is far from everything, and they scam you out of money for cabs and other things. Pick somewhere else. Even a hostel would be better.

We didn’t have time to try everything, including the spa and gym, because our schedule was so busy, but the hotel made for a great five-night stay. Food was excellent, and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. We also tried the go-karting, which was a thrilling bit of fun. The racetrack views give the place a cool feel, while the surroundings are peaceful and scenic. It really feels like a getaway. The rooms and everything else were fantastic, and we’d happily come back. The nearest towns and villages are about 20-40 minutes away, so having a car was definitely the best option.

The hotel is very nice, but the restaurant service left us with a bad experience: we caught a stomach virus, and more than 13 people were affected. For a five-star hotel, it’s not normal that there isn’t even a water dispenser. And the laundry service and the rest of it could fill a book.

Getting around would be practically impossible without a car, since the hotel is far from everything. The rooms were spacious and clean, and housekeeping did a good job. Some rooms have semi-transparent walls, which felt strange. Breakfast got repetitive, though lunch and dinner were much more enjoyable. There’s an outdoor pool, but the water was cold, around 20°C, plus a spa with a sauna and a warm indoor pool. We stayed near the Formula 1 track, and it’s a decent place.
