Quiet and welcoming, with a really cosy, family feel. The service and attention to guests were impeccable.

Breakfast is continental and quite good for Portugal, with something for everyone. The rooms are a good size, and the bathrooms are nicely equipped, with plenty of hot water and good pressure. The hotel feels a little dated, but it’s clean and very well looked after.

The breakfast was awful: very limited and not much variety. The fruit was only oranges, and the quality wasn’t good. There were no eggs, just three kinds of poor quality cold cuts, and only plain white bread, with no seeded or wholegrain options.

If you’re planning to kayak or take the boat trip down the mountain at 7am, this is a clean, reasonably priced place to stay. Breakfast starts at 8:15, and you need to check in before 11pm. Coming from Spain? Remember that Portugal is one hour behind.

Right in the town center, this is a decent place to stay on a budget. It’s been around for a while and looks a bit run down, but it’s still a good affordable option.
