Casa do Moleiro

The stream is lovely in summer, and you can cool off in it. If you sit quietly in the water, little fish may come and gently nibble at your skin ( ❛ ᴗ ❛). The water level varies by season and isn’t very high, and the water isn’t cold. At the start of July, there were hardly any mosquitoes or other insects. The owner has put incredible effort and dedication into turning parts of an old mill ruin into a home. One side of the house sits right against the rock face. He’s friendly, happy to show you around, and tells you about the mill’s history. He also has useful excursion tips. It’s peaceful, even though the town isn’t far away. In the evening you can sit outside with a glass of wine and listen to the brook babbling and frogs croaking. The house is quite dark inside, but that’s what you get with a stone house and its thick walls, it’s no glass palace. The road in is partly gravel and sloped, so it won’t suit lowered sports cars :-)

We only stayed one night, but left wanting to come back for longer. Casa do Moleiro is a great spot for a few days of real rest. Although it’s only a few meters from the village, the house is along an agricultural track, with almost no traffic nearby, which makes it wonderfully quiet. The sound of the river just below is inviting, and we even dipped our feet in. Sr. Henrique was very attentive, showed us around the house, and told us a little about its history. There’s plenty of equipment and kitchenware for a self-sufficient stay, and Mirandela is just a few minutes away by car for any shopping you need.

Henrique is very friendly and speaks Spanish. The house is close to a river, reached by a narrow dirt road, and wonderfully peaceful and private. It’s spectacular, with one bedroom and two living rooms that each have their own feel. The house is clean, rustic, and well cared for.

A lovely house for a week away, built by a Portuguese architect. It has so much charm, and the setting is truly peaceful and serene.
