Hotel Dom Afonso

Really nice.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is conveniently about a 6-7 minute walk from the center. Our room was clean and a good size, and breakfast was reasonable. The bathroom still has a tub and shower curtain, so it could use an update, maybe to a more modern walk-in shower.

Good value for the price, and the location near the Minho River and walkways is handy. The hotel is simple but clean. Parking is limited, and breakfast was too basic for my taste. A few small repairs are needed too, including the lock, shower, and toilet cistern.

The nicest part was how welcoming everyone was, from check-in until we left. The staff were always smiling and had lots of recommendations, and the cleaning ladies did a lovely job. Our room was warm, comfortable, and spacious enough for our family of two adults, one child, and a baby, even with a crib. The TV was modern with lots of channels, and we could adjust the temperature easily. We were also surprised by the fantastic view from our balcony, and the quiet location meant we heard no noise at night. Breakfast was normal, but the food was fresh and good quality, and there was even a really good pão de ló. The hotel has good access and is in a peaceful spot. I don't usually write reviews, but I had to this time. We’d go back if we can, and I recommend visiting Dom Afonso.
