Solar Alvura Health Hotel

We only stayed one night on the way to Lisbon, so it felt like we barely got to experience the hotel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and we really liked the setting and atmosphere. Breakfast had a small selection, but everything was fresh and tasty. Even arriving around 2 a.m., I got all the details I needed for self check-in. The service was top notch, and I’d gladly return for a proper stay.

We’d had a pleasant stay here before, so this visit was especially disappointing. We had warned the hotel we’d arrive late, around 10:30 p.m., and were told it would be fine: the side entrance would be open and the key left on the desk. But when we got there at about 11:30, every door was locked, and nobody answered the number we’d been given. After several calls, we managed to get the attention of a woman inside, who we later found out was the owner. The exchange became tense quickly, adding to an already stressful situation. My wife got a small cut while we were trying to get in. The owner didn’t show concern and made a comment we found unhelpful. My wife used a towel on the cut, and a misunderstanding followed. We were accused of trying to steal it and threatened with the authorities. After midnight we were told to leave, without a clear explanation, and had to find somewhere else at the last minute. It was a distressing experience that fell well short of the hospitality we expected. I’d suggest looking at other places nearby where guest care and professionalism are a priority.

The garden made the calm atmosphere even nicer, and the hotel was spotless and well located. We had a fantastic stay. Thanks so much to Tiago and the whole team for being so friendly and welcoming. You made it special for us!

We arrived around midnight expecting to find our keys at reception, as we’d been told, but all the doors were locked. No one picked up after several calls to the contact number. While trying to open the gate, I badly hurt my hand. Eventually an older woman in pajamas opened the door. I’d thought she was another guest, but she was the owner, and she was angry about the noise we’d made trying to get in. I was visibly bleeding, but she didn’t offer help or show concern. Instead, she argued with us and said we couldn’t stay. When I took a towel to stop the bleeding, she accused me of stealing and started filming. She also threatened to call the police and told us to leave. We ended up outside in the middle of the night, injured and with nowhere to go. It was awful and completely ruined our trip. Based on what happened, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
