Vinha do Gaio

The hosts gave us so many ideas for places to see that we wished we’d booked a longer stay. We had lovely little chats with them about all sorts of things, and the food and rooms were perfect. Their friendly dog, several cats, and the donkeys kept us entertained the rest of the time. South Portugal felt like home while I was here. A wonderful family has built this place with love and care as their dream project, and they do everything they can to share that dream with guests.

Antonio was such a good host. He took us to feed the donkeys and sheep and showed us the different trees and vegetables he’d planted. There were homemade treats at breakfast, and I could easily imagine spending a whole week there just enjoying the view. Portugal’s beaches are nice, but this place was even better for me: hardly any tourists, just nature, nature, and more nature, along with quiet and peace. If you can get a room, don’t think twice. It’s beautiful, and I’d love to return.

The view from our room was so beautiful, and we enjoyed every second of our stay at Vinha do Gaio. Antonio made us feel at home and was a lovely host, whether sharing tips on nearby places or just having a chat. It was probably one of the most amazing places we’ve stayed in Portugal. I loved the quiet here, with peaceful sounds of nature through the day. It’s a lovely escape from busy beaches and the burning sun. There’s cool shade under the cork trees, fragrant flowers, and local organic fruit and vegetables. At night you can see the stars, which is a wonderful experience if, like me, you live in a city and rarely see the sky. My room was super comfortable, with big windows and a great view. It had everything I needed, plus complimentary toiletries that smelled lovely. The internet was fast, which mattered for my online work, so it’s a great spot for a digital nomad looking for an inspiring place. The owner was extremely nice and spoke several languages. He shared lots of stories about the farm and Portugal itself. Kids can see the animals and learn about nature here. I totally recommend it and will definitely come back.
