Hotel Apartamentos Foz Atlântida

It was very quiet when we visited at the end of October, though the whole town was quiet then and many restaurants were closed. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, and the beach is just a minute's walk away. The studio had plenty of space for two, with a double electric hob, microwave, kettle, and fridge. There weren't many dishes, cups, or glasses, but I always bring my own mug on holiday. The rooftop pool was nice, and there's a small gym upstairs too. We'd asked for twin beds before arriving, but they hadn't seen the request. They changed the bed into twins on our second day.

The room was comfortable, with a good bed and pillows, and the air conditioning worked amazingly well, despite what I'd read in other reviews. It was spacious and had everything needed for self catering, including a fridge, stove, microwave, and plenty of cutlery, plates, mugs, and glasses. The beach and restaurants are only a couple of minutes away. We got a great price through lastminute.com. Service at reception depended on who you met. The short haired man gave us no information at check in, and the WiFi password on our key card holder was wrong, so we had to go back down to ask for the right one and find out the pool hours. One evening, after we ran out of toilet roll, he said he couldn't give us more. I've never had that happen at another hotel, where they're usually happy to provide things you ask for. The walls and windows are paper thin. Someone in the room beside us coughed so much most days that it sounded like he was dying, which was unpleasant to hear. The rooftop pool looks lovely on a sunny day, but it clearly wasn't being cleaned. My partner removed some dead bugs on our first day, and they were still by the pool on our last day. Gross. I enjoyed staying at Atlantida. With better WiFi, staff service, and pool cleaning, I'd rate it four or even five stars. If you can get a good price there too, I'd recommend it for a stay in Monte Gordo.

The staff were very nice and helpful, and the apartment was cleaned daily with fresh towels. The accommodation itself was good, and the location was quite good too. I'd return for the apartment and location alone. Breakfast was terrible: tinned fruit, hard rolls, and cold scrambled eggs and bacon. In winter, the restaurant was freezing, so we wore coats every morning.

The apartments are in good condition, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. It's a great location, and to me this feels like a five star stay in a four star hotel. The only downside was that the hot water barely lasted long enough for one shower.
