We were sorry to leave after just one night in this small village. The room was huge and even had a fireplace, which I can imagine would be lovely in winter. Breakfast was a typical continental spread, laid out for each guest, with bread and plenty of cheese and ham. Their restaurant serves delicious lamb, a local tradition, so book ahead if you want to try it. There’s a church next door, but you can hardly hear it. We enjoyed walking around the village, where I had the pleasure of meeting a herd of goats, and you can see Serra da Estrela as you wander.

The atmosphere was peaceful and really cosy, with great background music. Dinner was 20 stars, homemade food at a fantastic price, and breakfast was very good too. The staff were fantastic, especially Sr. Carlos, who was incredibly kind and attentive. We’ll definitely return. Thanks for everything, Sr. Carlos.

Breakfast was superb, with cheeses from the village cheese shop, where you can also buy really good cheese, bread, and plenty of other things. The owner was welcoming and helpful, and the clean, well-kept place has a warm feel in a quiet little village. There was a complimentary bottle of wine and sweets, and the linens smelled lovely. We’ll be back!
