Vasco da Gama Hotel

For a three-star hotel, this was the best I’ve stayed at. The food, service and facilities all felt at least four-star. Meals were really nice, with fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juice every time. Our room was clean and lovely, with a sea view, balcony and sunbeds. The bed sat a bit high, but the mattress was very comfortable. Wi-Fi was strong even on the fifth floor.

I arrived yesterday for a four-week winter stay. The weather’s been dull and a bit wet, but I’m looking forward to a few weeks of rest and relaxation. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, and the bed is warm and comfortable. There’s plenty of choice in the dining room, and the food is more than good. The bar and lounge entertainment was quite good too. It’s a cosy place to sit, relax, people-watch, chat and enjoy what’s going on. The staff are especially nice and helpful, and the service is second to none. I had one question and they sorted it in literally three minutes. The reception area looks a little worn, perhaps because of the dark wood, which may be authentic Portuguese. The passageways could use an uplift, but that’s about it.

We spent a week here over Christmas and have just got back. There are lots of different spaces to relax, including a games room, a big sofa room overlooking the sea, a bar and several outdoor seating areas. Our room was a great size and very comfortable. Meals were varied and tasty, and Christmas dinner was a real treat. We use a wheelchair and could get around all areas of the hotel, as well as reach the Broadway along the seafront easily. We didn’t have a designated accessible room, but the suction grab rail we brought worked easily in the shower and by the loo. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel was kept beautifully clean. Thanks to everyone, we’ll definitely be back.

The kitchen was sublime. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with plenty of fish dishes in the evening and fresh orange juice in the morning. The hotel is near the coast, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was cleaned perfectly every day. I’d recommend it!
