Monte Real Hotel & SPA

The buffet tasted good, but I found a dead fly in the octopus after putting it on my plate and sitting down. I didn’t say anything then because I didn’t want to draw attention to it or put other diners off. Later, when I was unexpectedly asked to sign a drinks receipt, I wondered if I should have mentioned it. We’d booked half board, yet nobody had asked us to sign for drinks before the second-to-last evening. Then I was asked to sign, but wasn’t given a copy. I also hadn’t seen other guests being asked. Restaurant service was uneven in other ways too: with our water we sometimes got a full ice bucket with lemon, sometimes small bottles, and sometimes large bottles with nothing extra. The hotel is beautiful and our room was spotless, thanks to the housekeeping team. Evenings and nights could be noisy with the balcony door open, so we had to rely on the air conditioning. I’m unsure whether I’d return or recommend it after these odd, unsettling experiences.

The service is what keeps bringing us back. This is the only hotel we’ve visited more than once where such a large team has been so consistently lovely. From reception to the restaurant, bar, and spa, everyone greets you with a smile and offers help right away. It feels natural, unlike places we’ve stayed before, including another hotel in the same group. Every staff member was warm, and they all seemed happy to work there. Our stays wouldn’t be the same without that. We spent another lovely weekend here, three nights in all. The hotel sits in a quiet village with not much going on, surrounded by forest and nature. Walking paths link up with longer hiking routes, and we visited the little animal farm on the property more than once to see its happy residents. The building is beautiful inside and out, though some areas could use maintenance. The interiors are pleasant and well decorated, and the peaceful setting does a great job of helping you relax. Breakfast was very good, with varied choices and fresh, quality products. The restaurant’s dishes and desserts were amazing. Their names alone don’t tell you how good they are until you taste them. We hoped to try the whole menu, but portions were generous enough that we shared some meals. The friendly, attentive team is the main reason we want to keep coming back.

The area feels green and fresh, with a sweet little animal farm and a tennis court, and parking is included. Our room was comfortable, with blinds that kept the light out and good sound insulation. From here, it’s a short drive to some great spots, while you’re still away from the crowds. The staff were attentive, breakfast buffet was excellent, and the restaurant was tasty and fairly priced. I’d definitely recommend it.

We loved our stay at the Monte Real hotel. It’s the best family friendly place we’ve stayed so far. There’s a small animal farm, a playroom for babies, table tennis, a Playstation room, an inflatable castle, and the regular pool and spa. The staff were so friendly and flexible. They let us check out later because our toddler doesn’t nap until noon. The only downside was the flies, though being close to the woods is lovely too. We had a great stay and would love to come back.
