Burriscas Campismo Rural

We loved our time at Burriscas and will definitely be back. There’s a communal kitchen, plus a room with Wi-Fi, books, games and coffee. We arrived late for check-in, but the owners still drove over after hours to welcome us. I really don’t understand the bad reviews. For me, this was better than most hotels.

The countryside setting was lovely and the room was okay. Make sure you pick up food before you arrive. No one was there to check me in, so I called and got it sorted.

I planned to stay one night on the way to Algarve and ended up staying 17. At just 7.50 €uros a night, including the dog, van and electricity, it was unbelievable value. There’s free 5G Wi-Fi across the whole camp now, so it works well if you need to get online. It’s a peaceful place, surrounded by farms and nature, and I highly recommend it if you want a few quiet days. The owner speaks perfect English, too. There’s a pool and a separate baby pool, a playground, and a little enclosure with a donkey and pony. The bungalows have air conditioning, and tent campers have an extra kitchen. The showers are hot, and the toilets have seats and paper, which you can’t take for granted in P. There’s room for four to five vans. The site is rural, though, and the steep driveway and bend won’t work for big mobile homes or a car and caravan. A camper van can manage. The campsite is beside Ecopista, the walking and cycling trail that goes straight into Montemor-o-Novo. Google’s suggested trail entrance behind the camp is wrong. There’s only a steep, narrow makeshift path the owner built, suitable for hikers. Cyclists need to go back to N2, turn right, then after about 100 m there’s a traffic light and an entrance to Ecopista. Google should correct the route. The footpath it shows doesn’t exist, and the land there is a fenced sheep farm with no trespassing.

We had a lovely, spontaneous short stay at Thelma’s (sp?) family farm. We got to see a sweet horse and some baby ducks, and the small camp was clean and well equipped. There’s a little playground, a shared outdoor kitchen, and a community room with vending machines, Wi-Fi and books, along with showers. We were warmly welcomed. Wish we could’ve stayed longer!
