A Quinta da Estrelinha

The setting was pleasant enough, and the cottage itself has potential, but the stay cost €2,138 for 24 nights and didn't feel worth that price. When we arrived, the owner showed us around in a very nervous manner and hurried off. We never saw her again. She later said she was busy and couldn't come, and when I texted her about woodworm in the beams after wood dust fell on me while sitting under the awning, she didn't reply. We are 77 and have rented holiday homes many times, but have never encountered this level of dirt. At first glance the house looked clean, yet dust was everywhere, the space beneath the double bed seemed not to have been cleaned for months, the kitchen was sticky all over, and the bathroom needed attention. There were cobwebs behind the toilet, and the bath and glass screen badly needed a proper scrub. We ended up working hard to get the place tidy ourselves. The security notice asked us to leave the house as if it were our own, but we couldn't manage that. Think twice before booking this address.

Dora was so friendly and kept checking that everything was all right. The house has exceptional decor and sits in a quiet area, well placed for visiting Coimbra, Aveiro, Ílhavo and other places. My family and I loved it.

A car is needed since this lovely accommodation is a little out of the way, though a few shops are only five minutes off and Montemor, its beautiful castle and zoo are about ten minutes away. The beaches at Buarcos, Quiaios, and Figueiras da Foz are half an hour away. It's a beautiful, peaceful natural setting, with everything clean and well cared for. Dora is a lovely host. Great for families with kids or anyone who enjoys nature.
