Casa Da Irene

The Murphy bed was clever and comfortable, the bathroom was large, spotless, and sharply designed, and the small kitchen worked well for meals while travelling. We stayed in the ground-floor south studio, where the big windows brought in plenty of air and light and made for a nice feel in the evening. The apartment had everything we needed, and seeing the washing machine was a relief halfway through our trip. We arrived in Nazare at 10:30am and called Vanessa to ask if we could leave our bags before check-in. The room was already clean and ready, so she promptly showed us to the beautiful apartment. She told us a little about Nazare and the surrounding area, shared how the apartments got their family names, and walked us through the amenities. We had some lovely meals in Portugal, but one of the best came after a trip to the town market and a quick stop at the supermarket. We cooked it with love back at Casa da Irene, and it became a great memory. Later, when we reached Coimbra, I realized I’d left my jacket hanging in the closet. I emailed and called right away, then got in touch with Celia. We worked out that she should send it to my home in the US, since we weren’t sure it would reach our next stops before we left the country. She packed it up and mailed it, and I couldn’t be more grateful. It was my favorite jacket and would’ve been a bit pricey to replace. We never wished we’d booked on the waterfront or somewhere else. The location is central to the market, the bus stop, the water, Sitio... stop looking and book this lovely place.

Simply the best!

The welcome was perfect, with clear explanations and very attentive service. The decor is traditional, and the studio mezzanine for children feels very secure. The major drawback is that the studio can’t be heated outside of guests’ hours. That makes it cold and unpleasant in winter, especially at bedtime, and the bathroom is cold too. It would help if the air conditioning could heat the apartment without needing a key card.
