Vina's Place

I came in January, and the cold made this a miserable stay. There’s no heating in the rooms. When I asked at reception for a portable heater, the woman just shook her head. I slept fully dressed, bobble hat on, just trying to avoid hypothermia, and was genuinely relieved when morning came. Even then, I didn’t want to leave the little warmth in bed for the freezing room. All the doors downstairs were left open, and the upstairs bathroom windows were open too. The hotel may be fine in summer, but if it’s open year-round, the rooms should be comfortable in winter. The bed was hard enough that I kept shifting to relieve the restricted blood flow, and the sheets and linen felt extremely damp. The room itself was okay, but the bathroom was shared, which wasn’t mentioned in the booking details. Its mouldy ceiling was unpleasant to look at, and breathing in the spores had me worried about my life expectancy. The kitchen was satisfactory, except I’ve never seen a kettle so brown inside. Using that thing seemed likely to shave more time off my life. The hotel is up on the cliff in Nazare, quite far from people, activity, and vibrancy. To get back down, you have to take the road or the cable car. If you want peace, it might suit you in summer. In winter it’s a freezing ghost town, and the hotel is hellish without heating.

We rang in the evening on the off chance there was a room free, and the woman on the phone was incredibly friendly and booked one for us straight away. We arrived a couple of minutes later, and check-in was seamless. She was just as kind and welcoming in person. The room was impeccably clean and we slept really well. We’re grateful she made us feel so welcome at her beautiful hotel at such short notice, and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

We stayed in the cheapest room, and it was great value for money. The place was super clean, though a little cold, and the kitchen could use some extra gear. The lady who greeted us was lovely. It’s a perfect place to stay if you’re here to see the waves. I’d come back.

The owner is a lovely, helpful lady, and the bed and shower were absolutely perfect. It’s a really convenient place to stay if you want to get up early to see the giant waves or check them out at night. I wouldn’t stay in Nazaré’s center for that reason. Would love to come back!
