Maciel

The room was spotless and seemed recently renovated, and the man at the desk was friendly and helpful. It’s a good value, though the room is barely bigger than the two twin beds pushed together to make a “king bed.” The bathroom is roomy and fine, except the shower head didn’t seem to work properly. Breakfast was included and adequate, but the selection was limited. Since it was low season and there seemed to be very few guests, I can understand why they didn’t put out much more food. We only spent one night and had to use whatever street parking was available. The location was really nice for exploring, and we wished we’d had another day. All in all, well worth a stay, and I hope to come back.

The rooms at “Maciel” are right on the street, so nights are noisy. The room we were given also had a disgusting toilet smell. We complained, but they denied it and didn’t believe us. Breakfast was made with the cheapest ingredients: dry bread, instant coffee, and tap water with a chlorine taste. We’d booked because of the good recommendations, hoping for a relaxing weekend in a nice hostel in Peniche. Instead, it was the worst stay of our holiday. Absolutely not recommended. Don’t get caught out like we did.

We had a pleasant stay in this centrally located hotel. The room was spacious, as was the bathroom, and breakfast was basic but fine.

It’s centrally located for restaurants and attractions, and the rooms are lovely and clean. The staff were friendly and very helpful. There wasn’t a huge breakfast selection, but what they had was very good.
