Star Inn Peniche

I stopped at the hotel recently and politely asked at reception whether I could use the restroom. I wasn’t a guest, and the staff said the facilities were only for guests, then pointed me to a small bistro across the street. I understand that hotels have policies, but the response left me disappointed. Given the size of the hotel, showing a little basic hospitality when someone asks respectfully doesn’t seem like too much to expect. It left a bad impression, and I won’t consider staying here in the future. They missed a chance to build goodwill and earn future business.

The rooms are clean and simple, and they were perfectly comfortable for our overnight stay. The hotel itself is nothing fancy, but it makes a handy base for exploring the area. Its location between a charming park and the beach is the real draw, especially for surfers and people travelling with pets. A quick morning walk in the park or heading straight to the surf spots sounds ideal. We’d definitely stay again for the convenience and pet-friendly feel.

The hotel is clean, with spacious rooms that have large beds, air conditioning, a minibar, a kettle, tea and coffee facilities, plenty of sockets, and a big balcony with chairs. There’s also a wardrobe safe. The private bathroom comes with plenty of towels, soap, shampoo, and a hair dryer. Parking is plentiful and free, and the restaurant serves fresh, tasty meals at good prices. It’s right across the road from the surfing beach, with good all-round views from the rooms. You can walk on level ground into town, where there’s a fantastic museum, and the supermarket, cafés, and bars are nearby.

The room had a good view, and the location worked well. Breakfast was really good, and the room and shared areas were cleaned very well. Some facilities need attention, though: both pools are small, crowded, and have cloudy water, while the spaces around them feel hot and stuffy. The gym and jacuzzi area is stuffy too, with only a few machines and some of them broken. The bathroom is too small, the bar food is good but the choices are limited, and the outdoor park could use better lighting at night.
