This used to be a grand hotel with top-quality service. Over the last few years, though, the dishes haven’t been a good example of Portuguese cuisine, and the food supplies don’t taste as they should. It’s a shame. It used to be exquisite, and it’s far from that now.

The location was lovely and quiet, and seeing the nice Citroen cars was an added bonus. The employees deserve kudos: service was 4.5 stars, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The sheets were very clean, water pressure was good, and there was enough hot water. The hotel really needs its interior updated: the walls need paint, the floors need sanding, and the carpet needs replacing. The decor is nice, but it all felt neglected. There was plenty of food, though the lack of effort showed there too. Lunch starters and dinner were the same both days, so it got boring, and some dishes seemed reheated.

There’s a large reception hall, a ballroom, and several old-fashioned lounges, all hinting at the hotel’s glamorous past. But it feels dated now, the cracks are showing, and the place could use a refurbishment.
