We hadn't planned to stop in this village, but it looked beautiful, and we spotted a hotel on the way. The hostess was very, very kind when we went in to ask about a room. There were three of us, and the two-room suite had plenty of space. Breakfast was good, with bread, cheese, meat, fresh juice and coffee. Parking was only a few minutes' walk away. Great place, six points out of five.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel after staying two nights. Breakfast was an extra 7 euros and, to me, ranged from poor to just acceptable. The value for money didn't seem right, even allowing for Óbidos being a bit pricier than other Portuguese cities. Most rooms are small and dark, below street level, and it was very hot in September. There was a strong sewage smell all day, constant pipe noise, and loud voices and street sounds. The beds weren't comfortable and the equipment was poor. Look elsewhere.

The following morning they brought a continental breakfast to our table: bread, preserves, pastries, ham, cheese, yoghurts, granola, orange juice, tea and coffee. Our room in this very old building was immaculately clean, with two large, exceptionally comfortable beds and an en-suite shower. We parked on the street without a problem. On arrival, reception was friendly and full of useful information, and we got a welcome drink in the bar on the sun terrace roof. It's ideally placed, just a one minute walk from the gate in the city walls, with lots of restaurants to choose from. A gem of a place, very highly recommended.

The patio is lovely and has great views of the castle and surrounding area. This is a picturesque B&B close to the city portal, though the rooms are smaller than average. Breakfast is simple and typical of Portugal, but served late for some reason, so you might not get it by 9 am. There's no reception area, and they made us wait at the front door before check-in. They advertise parking, but in practice it's only street parking. It's free, though you may have to take whatever spot you can find, even far away. We had a bad experience: we parked outside the wall, and someone broke a window at night and stole valuables. From reading reviews, I noticed similar incidents had happened to other guests. Police said it happens often now, so be careful where you park. When I asked the hostess for tape to cover the broken window, she made no attempt to help.
