There were seven of us, and the apartment had enough space, with three bedrooms and a sofa bed. The rooms were okay. One room had no window, just a door to the street that couldn’t be locked open only a little. Another had no closet at all. Ants were all over the house. It took several tries before the owner sent someone to put down product to reduce them. They also said they’d bring more ant traps, but never did. At night, there was a constant humming from some kind of built-in wall fan, and we couldn’t turn all of them off. If we return to Obidos, we’ll try to find somewhere else.

The price was more than fair, and the location was okay, though you have to walk uphill to reach town. The apartment clearly needed maintenance: a broken lamp, broken sofa springs, and a broken shower head. It was also full of flies when we arrived, not just a couple, but more than 20 in each room. It was unreal.

The apartment was nicely decorated, the bed was comfortable, and its location outside the castle walls was still good. There are a few basic things to improve, though. We’d seen reviews mentioning ants from over four months earlier, so thought the problem might have been fixed. It hadn’t. We woke to a house full of ants and had to throw away some biscuits. There were ants inside some kitchen cupboards too. Luckily, there was insect treatment available, and we managed to deal with them. The bathroom could also use a mat: a lot of water spills out of the shower and leaves the floor wet. There’s a mop, so it’s manageable, but adding a mat wouldn’t be difficult. Otherwise, I think it’s a good place to stay, with a reasonable price for the conditions.

We picked this little cottage on the edge of Óbidos on a whim and hadn't looked into it much, so we were a bit let down. The sofa isn't great for resting after a long hike 😅, and the glass doors don't give you much privacy. Still, for what we paid, it was okay. The train goes very close by, too.
