Retiro do Gerês

I was threatened by a staff member there. There's a crazy man working at the place, and anyone in uniform, whether staff or owner, should be more respectful. I didn't call the police because it would've taken hours for them to arrive and I didn't have time to wait. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE BECAUSE OF THE RUDE STAFF.

We'd only expected a basic cafe with a small menu when we stopped for lunch during a holiday walk, but instead found a top-class restaurant with excellent food and wine. It's a real gem, full of character and class. The owners clearly care about bringing local gastronomic treats to the table, including locally sourced long-horn beef steaks and sausages, wine, oils, and other products. The setting feels sophisticated but relaxed, and both the food and service are first-rate. I'd highly recommend it.

We had a great experience. The service was impeccable, and both the meat and seafood were top-notch. The food was delicious.

After hiking the seven lakes trail, we were starving and couldn't find anywhere serving food at 3:45 PM on a rainy Monday in March 2023. We ended up at this hostel out of desperation, and the meal was a wonderful surprise. The coal grilled octopus was my favorite, and the serving was very generous. I'd gladly stop in for another meal if I'm back in the area.
