We could walk to the centre of Penamacor, and the hotel's grounds were beautiful and well maintained. There's also a spa and a small fitness area. Our room was very large, clean and comfortable, with a balcony. The restaurant was just okay, not great: there were only two choices for lunch or dinner. It was pouring, so we stayed there to eat.

We planned to have our wedding there last month and visited six months ahead. At first they seemed happy to host us, then they stopped replying to emails completely. I wouldn't have believed a hotel, supposedly a good one, could be so unprofessional if it hadn't happened to us. It nearly ruined our day, and I'd give zero stars if I could. Thankfully, we found another hotel that made the wedding truly magical. It was a small wedding, and they wanted to charge us 30% extra, which we accepted without question, yet they still treated us terribly. Our only request was a gluten-free menu, which we'd mentioned from day one and which they said they could provide. We were flexible about everything else, including meals and decorations, and still got zero-star treatment.

The service was very friendly, and the stay was good value for money. Some areas could use updating and refurbishment, especially the thermal spa.

Great hotel, but it really needs an outdoor pool. A pool with a bar would be better for the hotter season.

The hotel itself is very nice, but the older man at reception was pretty rude. Someone should address his attitude.
