Vila Gale Ampalius Resort Hotel

We went out of season, so it was very quiet, which suited us. The hotel is right by the beach and just a few minutes’ walk from everywhere we wanted to go. The staff were really lovely, especially at breakfast, friendly, helpful, and accommodating. There are a few pools, and the hotel sits in beautiful surroundings, though it’s being renovated and new hotels are going up nearby. It must get busy in peak season. The kettle in our room was knackered, and the tea supplies weren’t replenished daily. Beautiful country, and a lovely mix of people from different places, including among the hotel staff.

With three pools to choose from, there was something for everyone, and the resort is well placed by the beach. The Marina, with its shops and restaurants, is within walking distance. The big disappointment was that the hot tub and gym cost extra to use, even with a spa package. The kitchen is very outdated and needs upgrading. USB ports in the rooms would be welcome too, they should be standard these days.

We’ll be back. The hotel is close to the beach, with a long promenade, and restaurants and bars are an easy walk away. Breakfast was good, the pools were nice, and the jacuzzi was good, though I wish the water had been a bit warmer. We had a good shower and a nice large balcony. Be sure to ask for a sea-view room. There’s shuttle service to the premium golf courses, which aren’t too far away. One slightly odd thing: the bar has children’s entertainment in the evening, so adults looking for a drink after dinner tend to head out to the local bars.
