Fair value for a one-night stop. The place is clean, safe, and well located, and you can see the river. The mattress has seen better days and the pillows are hard sponge. There’s only a skylight for outside ventilation. Cheap and cheerful, pretty much what you pay for.

My room was comfortable, with a shower and air conditioning, which was very much needed. The guest house is on a side street opposite a funeral parlour, close to the main road, so bring earplugs. There’s no reception desk or staff on site: the owner sends a code for the front door, then you open a small safe to get your room key. Honestly, it’s not much better than a hostel.

A tiny room with no comfort to speak of. The sockets were torn out, wires left exposed, and the TV wasn’t connected. A hostel would feel safer.

It was decent for the price, though the setup is hostel-like. The so-called river view was mostly the side of a wall, but we weren’t spending our time in the room anyway. It felt hot even when the weather outside wasn’t, but the AC took care of that.

We went for lunch and had one of the best meals we’ve had so far. The chicken and seafood cooked over coals were delicious. Portuguese home cooking at its best. We’d definitely come back.
