We were seven and had lots of room in this spacious old house. The interior courtyard is lovely, with a small barbecue, and you can park right outside. It’s also just a short walk to the city center. The house smelled clean and seemed well looked after. Still, on the third day we found a cockroach in the bathroom and a centipede above the front door, perhaps because the house is so old. We also had trouble with the hot water, but the landlord fixed it as soon as we let him know. He was very kind and pleasant.

There’s room for a lot of people in this large house, but the upstairs floors and stairs creak loudly enough to be disturbing. We found three cockroaches upstairs, two beneath our bed and one in the bathroom. The house is in a run-down neighborhood known for drug use.

The little inner courtyard with its small barbecue was a nice feature, and the owner had left us local products when we arrived. Midweek cleaning included a change of linens, which I appreciated. The house is well furnished and has a certain charm, even though its age of about a century shows. It’s quite damp, though that seemed common in a lot of places on Sao miguel. There’s convenient parking right outside, and the house is a five-minute drive from the center. It had everything we needed and was just right for eight people.

The landlord was very nice. It’s a beautiful, roomy holiday home with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a small garden.

There’s a supermarket just outside, and the comfortable house also has a small garden. A very pleasant place to stay.
