There’s no beach access, and Madeira doesn’t have many sandy beaches. The hotel itself is a bit old, but it’s large and has plenty of facilities: indoor and outdoor pools, a jacuzzi, two saunas, and billiards. Service was great. Breakfast and dinner were fine, with lots to choose from, though not everything was edible. The island is best visited by car, since many places aren’t walkable.

A sea-view room is worth booking for the amazing view, and the rooms are spacious. Reception was friendly, and the sauna and jacuzzi are free. There’s street parking, plus entertainment in the lobby every evening. We brought our own toiletries because we didn’t like the ones provided. Breakfast is very standard and gets boring quickly. It’s better to have a rental car, or you can use the hotel’s tour service, since there isn’t much to do nearby. The cafe across the street is worth a drink or a bite if there aren’t other options, though I’d recommend visiting the nearby towns.

This hotel feels very old-fashioned and needs a serious update. The decor and room furniture are all outdated. Still, it has a lot of potential, with a very nice outdoor pool and a spot right by the ocean. The rooms are big and spacious.

The rooms smelled musty and had ants, and the air conditioning didn’t work for half of our stay. Front desk staff were rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. This doesn’t feel like a four-star hotel now, though perhaps it might have been considered one 10-20 years ago.

It’s remote and quiet, right among the dramatic landscapes on Madeira’s north side, with a fantastic view and nature close by. The hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly, though the property is a bit outdated. Families with kids should find plenty to do, and the buffet is huge with a wide variety of food. You’ll absolutely need a car if you want to explore Madeira or eat and drink elsewhere.
