The common areas have a relaxed, creative feel, and the rooms are comfortable. Hostel Procyon is also close to everything in Ponta Delgada, with a great complimentary breakfast. The staff were welcoming and had plenty of local advice. A friendly place to stay, and one I’d highly recommend when visiting São Miguel!

Hotel Procyon felt peaceful despite being so convenient for getting around. It has a charming, cosy atmosphere and was impeccably clean. Filipe made the stay especially memorable: he was knowledgeable, welcoming and went out of his way to make sure everything was right. It’s clear he takes pride in looking after guests. I felt genuinely cared for and would definitely return.

The dorm rooms had two drawbacks: the exit signs were very bright, and the floorboards creaked whenever anyone moved. An eye mask and earplugs should help, and the beds themselves were very comfortable. What made this one of my favourite hostel stays was how easy it was to meet people in the friendly, sociable atmosphere. The staff are all local guides who know the island inside out. I arrived with little idea what to do, and almost every morning they helped plan a full day of fun activities around the area I wanted to explore. Breakfast was amazing, too, and the attentive staff could make espresso, eggs and other things on request. So many great memories.

The hosts made a real effort to give me the best stay they could. They put together an itinerary that took me to even the island’s most remote spots, and breakfast was homemade with locally sourced ingredients. The hostel was clean and felt safe, and I felt right at home while exploring. Their kindness and hospitality went far beyond what I expected. They’re short staffed, like other places, but you’d hardly notice. I kept seeing the same two smiling faces whenever I came in. I’d highly recommend staying here. 11/10.
