AP Lago Montargil Conference & Spa

The location is great and the views are stunning, but the food and service were disappointing. I’m posting this, my first poor review, because I believe in constructive feedback. Breakfast was a letdown. In a place famous for toast, there wasn’t even a toaster. Portugal has wonderful Algarve oranges, so why serve juice from concentrate? The bacon and eggs were overcooked, and when I asked the chef, the answer was, “this is what is available.” The bacon had burned edges on two mornings in a row. I can eat a late kebab without issues. I uploaded photos to show I’m not complaining for no reason. Drink prices weren’t cheap, and the quality was lacking. We ended up buying drinks at the supermarket, though I’d have preferred to spend that money at the hotel and relax. Pool and bar staff left me with no good memories. They kept a pregnant woman waiting for ages without showing a bit of kindness. Check-in was easy, but having to collect towels at reception and take them back there at checkout made no sense. We had to return to the room to pick up wet, dirty, old towels. That’s a five-star hotel? I doubt my opinion will matter because of the location, and people will keep going anyway. I hope this helps anyone who looks past that and cares about where their hard-earned money goes.

The rooms have excellent views, and I really appreciated the shuttle to the lake. There’s also a big free car park with charging outlets. We enjoyed the delicious food, the four pools, several bars, and the spa. The service was first-class, and I enjoyed the whole stay. Thanks for taking such good care of us.

I went for a weekend to unwind, enjoy nature, and spend time at the spa, and the hotel was just right for that. It would also make a lovely romantic break. The grounds are small but beautifully kept, and the beds were excellent. The staff made me feel truly welcome. They handled all my requests and even offered an upgraded room. Breakfast came with live piano music, and on Sunday the ladies were given flowers. I liked the spa, especially the fantastic sauna, and the heated indoor pool had very convenient opening hours. I’d love to come back.

We paid 160 EUR a day, but the sockets, lights, and clothes dryer weren’t working. After sunset, a dark, unlit area was completely useless and felt abandoned. Is this five-star service, or does nobody care in the low season? The “fabulous” breakfast advertised on Booking.com felt more like a student hostel. And paying to use a billiard table at a supposedly five-star hotel? Really? I don’t know what this place is like in high season. Maybe some or all of these problems go away then, but this was our experience. It feels like the hotel is living on an old reputation and all those good reviews from the past. These days, it’s a waste of time and money.
