Ukino Terrace Algarve - Concept Hotel

We had a lovely family week away and would definitely come back. We went with Jet2 on 27 December so we could spend New Year in Portugal. Our ground-floor room was above the cafe, with a great view. It was handy not having many steps, and we enjoyed watching the farmer with his sheep and goats each day. Transport from the hotel was good, and prices seemed fair since it’s a little away from everything. Thanks to the whole team.

The food had plenty of choice at every meal, and the chefs greeting guests at the restaurant entrance made dining feel welcoming. The hotel was very clean, especially around the pool. Sonia at the pool bar was energetic, friendly and fun, and gave us helpful suggestions for places to visit. Diogo from the entertainment team was a real highlight too. He was kind, funny and respectful, and put a lot of effort into getting people involved. His enthusiasm made a big difference to our holiday. The room was clean, but dated, with old and uncomfortable furniture. The twin beds on wheels kept sliding apart, the mattress moved, and the tiny, thin pillows made sleeping uncomfortable. The walls are very thin, so we could hear everything next door. We were assigned a room on the third floor and had to carry luggage and children up because there are no lifts in the buildings and staff offered no help. The balcony sliding doors couldn’t be opened without seagulls trying to get inside. Checkout felt impersonal. They took the key and briefly told us to leave our luggage to one side, without asking how the stay had been or whether everything was okay. With the strong food, cleanliness, and especially the impact of Diogo and Sonia, we rated it four stars, though the room comfort and service details let the stay down.

The apartments were nice and clean, but the food was cold and uninspiring. After two breakfasts we stopped eating there and made toast in the apartment instead. There isn’t much to do in Porches besides walking to nearby Lords Bar, so we took taxis to Lagos and Albufeira to get away from the boredom.

A good-sized pool and large rooms with comfortable beds made for a good stay. The apartment rooms have good facilities, and the food was good, though not quite great. The hotel is near the beach and a cliff walk, in a quiet town.
