Herdade do Rio Torto

Our stay at the Herdade wasn't planned, and this warm, quiet little paradise turned out to be a lovely surprise. Julio and Nadya were wonderful, and the kids loved it.

Júlio, Nadia, and their cheerful son Martin make this feel like a real countryside home in Alqueva, Alentejo. They're exceptionally warm, helpful, and attentive. We spent three nights at Herdade do Rio Torto over Easter with family and friends, and it was an unforgettable chance to relax and recharge. Everything was well cared for, with rustic decor, spotless rooms, peaceful landscapes, wild and domestic animals, and plenty of recreational facilities. Breakfast and dinner, when ordered, were tasty and high quality. Be sure to go on a night safari with Júlio to look for animals and gaze at the stars, and try Nadia's regional dishes.

The room was noisy, especially near the dining area where breakfast is served, so getting a good night's sleep was difficult in a place advertised as a haven of tranquillity. When we reported the noise and said we couldn't stay the night, Júlio Adrego acted extremely unprofessionally. He initially promised to refund our fully paid stay, then refused, using what I saw as made-up excuses, including unfounded accusations. That would be unacceptable at any other hotel. The facilities are old and less well maintained than advertised: the front gate doesn't even open, the rooms are cold and poorly insulated, and there's none of the advertised luxury. When we arrived, Júlio didn't wear a mask, although it was required by law at the time because of covid. Don't expect high standards of cleanliness or sanitation either. A tourist trap. If things don't go as expected, you're on your own. This is definitely not the place advertised.

A lovely, peaceful place with wonderful nature all around, and very relaxing. The resort feels made with love, and the hosts are very friendly. I'll always come back.
