Casa do Mar

We spent most of our time out exploring the island, but Casa do Mar was a lovely place to come back to. The porch view over the jetties and ocean is stunning, and we had coffee there in the mornings and wine and snacks in the evenings. It was so quiet and nice having the place to ourselves. The beds were comfortable, with plenty of room in both sleeping areas. The bathroom was spacious and had good hot water and pressure. The living room seating worked well for the two of us, and one evening we connected the TV to stream a movie from Prime. The kitchen had all the plates, utensils and cookware we needed, plus a fridge and two-burner oven that suited a short stay. Nunos had left coffee, sugar, boxed creamer and a really nice welcome basket. We walked down to the jetty to explore, and on a sunny afternoon went to Praia dos Moinhos. It felt tucked away and wasn't crowded. There was a snack bar there, which was nice to have even though we didn't order anything. The location works well as a base for seeing the island, though you'll definitely need a car. Nunos was a great host and answered all our questions. We were there just before the busy season, so some restaurant hours didn't fit our schedule, and we didn't get to explore the Formoso area around Casa do Mar. It's a quaint, quiet little area, though. We'd stay here again.
