The damp smell hit us as soon as we entered, and the room was far smaller than the photos suggested. There was just one small window and no air conditioning, only a heater and a dehumidifier showing 85% humidity. We slept badly and woke with back pain; in the morning, there were insects in the bedroom. The bathroom had clearly been missed during cleaning: a tampon was on the floor. The towels were old and discoloured. We also found the shared areas cold, dim, and damp, with little sign of care. Breakfast was basic, with cake, bread, butter, ham, cheese, coffee or tea, and overripe bananas. The staff member was scrolling through social media with the sound on while we ate, which felt unprofessional. Getting there added stress. Check-in was at a village restaurant, so we had to commit before seeing the place. The drive then took us up a very narrow, steep road that felt risky in a rental car. We had booked two nights but left after one because of the conditions. The property refused a refund and never replied to our follow-up message. At around €80 a night, it felt overpriced. For a little more, there are much better places nearby. I can't recommend it, and I'd urge future guests to read the Google reviews carefully before booking.

The bathroom had a bleach smell mixed with wet-shoe odor, like a gym changing room on a Thursday evening. The tiny room felt like a dump, and the damp smell lingered everywhere, even on the supposedly fresh towels, despite running the dehumidifier all day. Maybe opening the windows in summer would help, but there are plenty of better places around Madeira at a similar price. This was by far the worst accommodation we stayed in on the island.

The garden is gorgeous, and there's a small rooftop terrace too. Breakfast each morning was simple but nice, and you can use the washer and dryer. It's far enough up the hill from Porto moniz to be peaceful, while still close by. I'd suggest adding a fan to the room. The road up is really narrow, so you'll need to drive carefully and manage the clutch.

We had a peaceful stay in lovely, affordable accommodation surrounded by beautiful gardens and historic buildings. Late check-in was arranged at a local restaurant. The shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water, and a tasty breakfast was prepared and left in the dining room for us.

The garden was stunning, with lovely places to sit and a rooftop terrace. We didn't get much use out of it because it was cloudy and windy the whole time, so we felt stuck in our dark, uncomfortable room. It didn't even have a window, and the damp was so bad that towels wouldn't dry and clothes that had been dry became wet overnight. Hot water took ages to come through. We eventually noticed the dehumidifier, but nobody told us it needed emptying every few hours. It was full again 12 hours after we emptied it. For a guest room costing over €80 a night, that just isn't acceptable. Breakfast was mixed: the scrambled eggs were very good, but the rest was limited, with no vegetables. It was served at a shared table, and when something was gone, it was gone. Santa, where the room is, felt shabby and unpleasant. We were glad to leave. The only star I'm giving is for the garden.
