It's a quiet spot for a breather, away from the tourist crowds and 450m above sea level. The villa's sea views are fantastic, the garden is well kept, and Fanal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is eight minutes away. The renovated villa is huge, with pleasant atmosphere inside its nostalgic stone walls, and it's well equipped, right down to dishwashing liquid and charcoal. The queen-size beds in every room work well for couples, though not for anyone who needs more space. You'll need to be self-sufficient because the property management company is difficult to reach. I'd recommend coming only by car.

You need a car to get here. The house has everything you need, with incredible views from its lovely setting in the hills above Ribeira de Janela, near Porto Moniz.

The sea view was lovely, and the owner was friendly. The house is really pretty and nicely decorated.
