Hotel Salgueiro

Late checkout at 12:00 was a plus. The rooms were nice, but there were missing amenities and a broken toilet seat. For €350 for two people and two nights, the terrible breakfast, weak service, and old, outdated building made the stay more than disappointing value for money.

If you’re visiting between November and April, don’t count on enjoying the jacuzzi unless you’re a Wim Hof fan. Staff said its temperature can’t go above 34 C, which makes it no pleasure to use. Maybe they should turn it off for the winter to save electricity if that’s really the limit. Apparently jacuzzis in Madeira are programmed differently from everywhere else.

The view was absolutely breathtaking, and our room was beautiful and spotless. We really enjoyed our stay!

We woke up covered in bites after finding bed bugs in our room. It was alarming and extremely uncomfortable. The hotel moved us to a higher-category room as soon as we reported it, but the rest of the response felt far from professional. No one proactively offered to launder our clothes, a necessary step in this situation, so we had to ask. That added to our concern that staff weren’t properly trained to handle a serious problem like this. When we told reception, two staff members started arguing about it right in front of us. It made the hotel seem disorganized and unprofessional. We only received an apology later, when our clothes were returned. We understand this is a three-star hotel and had adjusted our expectations, but bed bugs are unacceptable at any rating. Even more concerning, the hotel seemed to carry on as usual the next day, with no visible pest control and no information for guests about how the issue was being handled. It was a very unpleasant, stressful stay, and we hope the hotel takes serious steps to stop this happening to future guests.
