BNapartments Rio, Porto My husband and I stayed in Porto for our honeymoon from March 23 - April 2, 2024. We ended up calling the place “Fawlty Towers.” We'd agreed to meet at 5pm to get the keycard and information, but nobody was there. After waiting 10 minutes, I called. Tiago was rude and shouted that they'd waited 20 minutes and left because we hadn't arrived. We had arrived exactly at 5 pm, as agreed. They said they'd be back in about 20 minutes. When they showed up, Tiago kept shouting and complaining that he was the only employee on duty and had to run all over the city. It was a terrible first impression. The room itself was okay and looked like the pictures. It seemed clean, and had a small terrace off the living and dining room, plus a kitchen and bathroom. But when we tried to shower after dinner, the cubicle was tiny and the hose hook was broken, so the hose dangled and sprayed everywhere. There was no soap or shampoo holder, and trying to wash with one hand while holding the hose with the other was nearly impossible. The water also wouldn't drain. It took two days of calls and complaints to get the shower addressed. It was never properly fixed, and on the fourth day we were moved to a larger, slightly better apartment. Then the weather turned cold, and wind came through the patio doors and windows so badly that we could barely sleep. There were no extra blankets. I think they might have provided some, but I was tired of complaining, so we ran the heater constantly. The second apartment was also in varying states of disrepair, with broken or missing kitchen utensils and another leaking shower, though it wasn't as bad as the first. The heating worked, though Porto was too cold at that time for it to keep the place comfortable. There was a nice rooftop terrace that would have been great in better weather. The second apartment was very central, which suited us as we like walking everywhere, but the area is very hilly and not good for anyone with mobility issues. Guilherme, the second person we dealt with, was very nice and as helpful as he could be. The price was affordable, and the apartment would probably be comfortable in summer. Still, Tiago was rude and unwelcoming. The showers didn't drain properly, the bathrooms almost always smelled of sewage, and the toilet didn't always refill after flushing. This wasn't our favorite place to stay, but we tried to enjoy our honeymoon and eventually laughed when another unpleasant thing happened. We still love Porto!

The shower worked, but the head could use replacing. Otherwise, we had comfortable beds, a private bathroom, a small kitchen, a TV, and shutters that kept the sun out, which we learned matters a lot in Portugal in summer. The apartment has what you need, and it's on a fairly quiet street, though you're in the middle of Porto within minutes. Check-in was quick, staff gave us some good tips, and the service was great despite there being no daily housekeeping.

We didn't get the room we'd booked, so we lost the terrace where we'd planned to eat breakfast. The terrace in the room we got wasn't much use because we could hear people going up and down the stairs. The river view was lovely, but dirty windows made it hard to enjoy, and opening them let in the cold. The toilet was dirty when we arrived, with brown marks from previous guests that I had to clean before using it. After seeing that, we didn't want to use the kitchen things and spent extra on breakfast each day. There wasn't enough room for our things in the bathroom. If you arrive before 12 pm, there's no proper place for your luggage, just the entrance where people are coming and going. The apartment has what you need to get by for a couple of days, but the cleaning needs more care. We heard noise on the stairs, from the construction outside, and from people going upstairs. The beds felt too hard for lighter people. I like willows, so hearing them all the time didn't bother me. That was better than noisy neighbors or drilling.

We had a great experience and would love to come back. The apartment was modern, spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The woman who met us with the key was friendly and welcoming. It's in a great spot with amazing views, and The Hungry Biker, a restaurant three minutes away, is a must for breakfast.

The city view was beautiful, and it was very quiet with no noise. The apartment was a great deal for the price, though the host wasn't especially welcoming. Still, it's a great place to stay.
