Rosalia turned our exhausted arrival into a lovely welcome. After the long trip from Canada, flying to Lisbon and then taking the bus north, she greeted us with a smile, showed us the beautiful terrace, and gave us a bottle of homemade wine. She also filled in a city map with places to visit and eat, suggested when to go, and noted the costs. We felt at home within minutes, and that’s when our Porto adventure really began. Casa D’Almeida is spacious and elegant, with high ceilings, lots of natural light, and a quiet atmosphere. It has authentic Portuguese charm, and everything was spotless and well kept. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the city center, so it’s peaceful and reasonably priced compared with staying downtown. We’d choose Rosalia’s place again next time we’re in Porto. I recommend it with all my heart, it’s a gem.

Being just outside the city center worked well for me, since I could still walk into town. The room was clean and very comfortable, and the care put into the place was easy to see. Rosália is such a welcoming host, she made me feel at home right away.

I stayed three nights in the original part of this beautiful building. The remodeled section is very nicely done too, and my room was roomy and comfortable. Cafes and restaurants are easy to reach on foot, with public transportation nearby if you need it. It was a wonderful stay, and I’d come back when I’m in Porto again.

Breakfast was delivered to the door, and after that we could look after ourselves. I liked that independence, a welcome change from all the fuss of a hotel. The Casa is elegant but has no frills, with comfortable, functional rooms, great showers, warmth, and immaculate cleanliness. It felt like staying in an impressive home where the owner had left us to our own devices. There was interior work underway, but they chose not to do it while guests were in the house, which was considerate. Rosália was a delight to communicate with, flexible and thoughtful, and gave us great recommendations. I’ve got nothing but good things to say after three nights, and I’ll be back.
