Hotel Cristo Rei

We really liked the room and the warm welcome. The hotel is right in central Porto, in a very convenient spot.

The location and reception staff were both 10/10 for me, and the receptionists were genuinely kind and tried their best. But the condition of the cleaning, furniture, mattress, sheets and shower was 1/10. I have evidence of what happened, though I won't post it here out of respect for readers and the staff. The place needs a full renovation before I'd recommend it. I was trying to save money, but now I'm paying for physiotherapy because the bed was so uncomfortable, so it hasn't saved me money in the long run. During the stay I ended up sleeping at local homes instead of the hotel. Some of the extremely positive reviews here don't match what I experienced. When I arrived, my second-floor room had dirty, musty sheets and blankets. I panicked a bit, worried about bedbugs, and checked every corner of the bed. There was hair, dust, stains and a few small dead bugs. I looked through Google and Booking.com reviews and found one report of bedbugs from two years earlier. I guessed there may have been treatment since then, but the mattresses still need replacing. After asking locals about other options, I was told a more decent place at short notice would cost much more. I went back to reception, explained everything, and showed photos and the small bugs I'd found. The receptionist looked nervous but offered another room right away. Sadly, its mattress and bedding were in very poor shape too. The blankets smelled musty, so I took them off and slept just under the sheets. The Wi-Fi didn't work in the room, either, so I had to sit downstairs by the entrance to get online. I can't recommend booking here unless you have absolutely no other option.

The hotel staff were really nice, and I had a good stay there.

It was a great holiday, with good service. Mr Yassine was professional and kept in touch the whole time.
