The Marquês Garden House is a Singular House located in one of the oldest squares in the city, Praça Marquês de Pombal.
The Guest House’s facade is filled from top to bottom with rectangular tiles typical of Porto in the 17th century. XIX.
Upon entering, you will find ceilings worked in noble wood, friezes of vegetal tiles by Bordalo Pinheiro, stone walls and an imposing staircase, decorated with a child bust by Soares dos Reis, the great sculptor of Porto.
Praça do Marquês was once one of the most emblematic and bustling areas of the noble city of Porto. Over the centuries, it has had different names, an example of which is Praça da Água, having also been a trading area, cultivation of agricultural land, passage of troops during the Siege of Porto.

The location is quiet, right across from a lovely park square with a metro stop and buses just outside. It’s only a couple of metro stops from central Porto. We heard a little from the neighbors upstairs and in the shared hallway, but it wasn’t too bad. The property has been renovated beautifully, and the hotel staff were welcoming and accommodating. They listened to our complaints and dealt with most of them, though the broken lamp, faulty remote and empty, broken bathroom dispensers were disappointing. Breakfast was the bigger letdown: we were quoted 12€ per person when booking, but it had gone up to 15€ at checkout. After we complained, the receptionist charged us the original 12€. Even that felt steep for a cold continental breakfast. There was a buffet sign advertising omelets and pancakes for an extra charge, but when I asked for a pancake, I was told no hot food was available. I suggested they take down the sign.

Isabel, Martin, Carolina and the rest of the staff made us feel like family from the moment we arrived at Olivia Garden House on Marques. We stayed September 11 -15 2025, and the hospitality made the whole visit comfortable and pleasurable. The building is centuries old, but it’s been modernized for guest rooms without losing the original character and beauty of each room. Continental breakfast was included, and eggs or pancakes could be ordered. The staff were helpful with local sights and places to eat nearby. We tried some non touristic restaurants and had exceptional food, thanks to the suggestions from Olivia's staff. I don’t often feel moved to write a review, but this place and its people deserve the recognition.

We were allowed to stay by the pool and lounge around after checking out at 12pm, which was such a kind way to help us while we waited for our flight. Even though we were only there one night, the welcome from the staff stood out. They greeted us warmly and offered coffee. The room was amazing, with an incredible bed and loads of space, and the house felt homely. It’s in a really nice area, though a little farther from the old town. Huge thanks to the staff for accommodating us. Highly recommend it.

We loved having the courtyard to relax in, whether for yoga, a drink or a dip in the pool. It was handy while waiting to check in or for a taxi to the airport, too. The historic building has loads of character and charm. The staff were kind and attentive, and breakfast had that homemade feel, like being welcomed into someone’s home. The location is peaceful, away from the crowded center, but you can still explore plenty on the way in, about a 30-minute walk. A comfortable, authentic-feeling place to stay while still being connected to Porto’s energy.

After busy days around Porto, this was a cozy, quiet place to unwind. We spent some time by the pool recharging, and were glad we chose this pleasant city hotel. Highly recommended for a city stay.
