I felt safe and well looked after as a solo traveler, thanks in part to the fabulous staff. Rafael and the long-haired receptionist with glasses were especially welcoming and helpful. I also value the hotel's environmental credentials, and they mattered when I booked. I'd have no hesitation staying again. My room was a good size and looked onto the cloister, where birds in the trees and morning sun made a lovely view. Everything was fine apart from the hairdryer, which stopped working and which I reported to reception. Breakfast had plenty of sweet and savory choices, and the bar food was good too, with lovely views from the terrace. The hotel is a short walk from Ribeira, so it's both convenient and quiet. I went to an event at SuperBock Arena, about a 30-minute walk away, and the return trip was quicker downhill.

The staff’s kindness made the biggest difference for us. After a check-in issue, Leonor quickly and kindly sorted things out, moved us to a better room, and offered a welcome drink. Mariana, the Front Office Manager, followed up by email the next day and shared her contact details. We later had coffee with her at the bar, and she made us feel just as cared for. Back in the room, we found a complimentary bottle of Port and some delicious Pastéis de Nata. On our last day, we came down with terrible food poisoning. We’re sure it came from oysters we ate somewhere else, definitely not from the hotel. We couldn’t leave the room, so Mariana and João kindly let us stay until 5pm without an extra charge. That helped us enormously. The room was really comfortable, with a great bed, spotless bathroom, and walk-in shower. The location was perfect, and breakfast was much more than the listed continental offering: a full self-service buffet with lots of hot and cold choices, plus plenty of tea, coffee, and juice. Even when it was busy, there was always food and it never felt crowded. Everyone we met was warm and clearly wanted to make our visit special. We loved Porto and will come back, and we’ll definitely stay at NEYA Porto again. This was the best and most personal hotel experience we’ve had. 100% recommended.

The hotel itself is nice, and the view from its location is good. The room was okay, though it was missing some things I expected, and breakfast was below average, with too few choices and not worth the price. What put me off returning was how the payment and checkout issue was handled. They say they accept AMEX, but my card was rejected there, even though I’d used it in several other places. At check-in I explained that the reservation was wrong and that I’d be checking out one night early. They said it was no problem. I checked again during my stay and was told it had been noted, but after I left they refused to refund the unused night. I can understand a policy that doesn’t allow changes, but this felt like a silly way to lose a customer. I’d rather spend my money somewhere that values my business than hold onto 100 euros. Too bad.

The staff were really kind and friendly, and the hotel has lovely architecture on the grounds of an old church. It’s a very nice new place right by the Douro River. Our room was pleasant, though it was too cold for December. Breakfast could use some work at this level, especially with more fruit and healthier choices.

Porto’s sights are all within walking distance from the hotel, which made getting around easy. The rooms are basic and functional. Reception staff gave clear instructions and were helpful, while the restaurant team were lovely and served warm, hearty breakfasts. Dinner was local and comforting, the food tasted great, and dessert was always sweet.
