Hotel do Norte

Francisco deserves a big thank you (obgiada). Such a kind gentleman, and he made this Brit feel welcome. Thank you from England 😊❤️ The cleaners were great too, and the staff were amazing. Loved this hotel.

Hotel do Norte is in an attractive and very convenient area, which is its strongest point. Inside, though, the rooms feel dated and could use updating. Security worried me because there were attempts to open the doors, and the in-room phones didn't work properly. The upstairs single room had a particularly strong, unpleasant bathroom smell that affected my comfort. The hotel has potential because of its location, but plumbing and general maintenance need attention.

I booked three nights but could only manage one. A powerful smell of cleaning products made my allergies and asthma worse, and I couldn't breathe or sleep at all. The next morning the common areas smelled even stronger of bleach. The bed was noisy, and the toilet was quite dirty. Terrible stay. A staff member basically said it was a two-star hotel, as if that made it okay to be bad. It felt expensive for what it was, and I'm still waiting for the refund for the two nights I didn't use.

The people working here are nice, and the area is great. The rooms are very basic, smell odd, maybe from the pipes, and are quite noisy. I guess that's true of every cheaper hotel in Porto. The beds are okay but very small. It's an alright budget place if you want to stay in a good area, as long as you don't expect much.
