Porto Riad Guest House

The basement rooms were cold and damp, and street noise was loud. The location, breakfast, and shared spaces were good, though.

The breakfast was a nice surprise for a room rate that included it: breads, cereals, cheese, spreads, coffee, tea, and juice. My wife and I had read some worrying reviews, but we both enjoyed our stay. Our economy double on the 3rd floor was clean and in good shape, with a solid door lock. We felt fine leaving our valuables in the room while we were out. We’d happily stay again if we come back to Porto.

DON'T BOOK. The basement room was damp enough that our clothes got wet, and there was dirt and dust everywhere. When we raised it with the owner, she responded badly. The sink was broken too, and the tub had a black stripe. It was the ugliest place I’ve ever stayed.

The staff were absolutely amazing, and the price felt fair for what we got. The place is beautifully designed, with an atmosphere that reminded me of a holiday in North Africa. Our large room was partly below ground beside the road, but traffic didn’t rush past. Everything is old, yet clean, and breakfast is simple but fresh. The nearest metro station is a five minute walk away.
