Porto Tile House

We stayed two nights, May 1 and 2, in the Armenia Room at Tile House in Porto. The room was small, the bed wasn’t comfortable for me, and the front facing window let in quite a bit of street noise. There was a small kitchenette, enough to make breakfast or a snack. The main problem was the toilet. When we arrived, the flush handle was cracked, so flushing meant taking off the top and doing it by hand. I contacted the hotel and was told someone would check it. While we were out on a tour, I was told it couldn’t be repaired until the following week. I said that wasn’t acceptable and asked for another room, but the replies were unhelpful. It was a busy weekend, so we couldn’t find another place to stay. Tile House said I could push the mechanism with my hand because it was “not a big problem.” I explained that I found this unsanitary and disgusting, was worried about infection, and was on a tour until 4:30, so asked for a better solution. They replied that the water was normal tap water, like kitchen water you could drink. I disagreed and said the photo showed a lot of bacteria, and that I was very unhappy with their responses. They then suggested using a spoon or something else from the kitchen to push it down so I wouldn’t touch the water. I wasn’t happy with how the whole situation was handled. Photos document the issue.
