Portus Cale Hotel

The staff were friendly, and the room was fine. The location worked for me too, since it was walkable even if it wasn’t especially close to the main town. But the bed was the most uncomfortable I’ve ever had in a hotel. It was extremely hard, and I could feel the springs through several blankets.

We came to Portugal with friends, and it was all our first visit. We’re so glad this hotel made such a lovely introduction to a city we might one day call home. The rooms, bar and included breakfast were great, and the staff were helpful and really attentive. We were thrilled with our stay.

The rooms were quiet, which made for a restful break after a long trip, and the staff were courteous with us. They have two lifts and can provide an iron if you need one. We’d asked well ahead for an early check-in, and the hotel accommodated us. They also replied promptly to my email questions, which felt professional.

We really liked the breakfast, and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The air conditioning worked well and kept them cool. The hotel is quite far from central Porto, though there are buses nearby and Uber or Bolt are available. One annoying thing: the woman who checked us in said breakfast began at 6:30, but when we came down at 6:45, the room was closed. It actually opens at 7, and another guest said they’d also been told 6:30. I just wish the hotel were more central.
