The courtyard was one of my favorite spots. I liked sitting there in the evenings to relax after a day out. My stay was also incredibly quiet. The hotel is on a peaceful one-way street at night, yet shops and restaurants are only about a 6-10 minute walk away. The large windows brought in lovely sunshine, and I could open them for fresh air. I was there for two weeks, from April 14-29, and really enjoyed it. It’s a charming little boutique hotel that still has the character of its former life as an art school. The rooms are older, which adds to the character, and mine was spotless. Bedding and towels were refreshed daily, and the desk was comfortable for using my laptop. The front desk staff were pleasant and helpful every time. When I had a migraine and asked for ice in a ziplock bag, they brought a cold gel pack instead. Another evening, they kindly brought up the soup I’d ordered through Uber Eats. They replaced the bottled water every day, and the bottles were large 1.5-liter glass ones. The coffee was amazing too. Room service has a somewhat limited menu, but with so many wonderful restaurants and cafés within a 5-10 minute walk, that was never a problem. They helped me arrange tours, and whenever I needed a taxi, they gave the drivers exact drop-off information, which made getting around stress-free. There were so many helpful staff that I can’t remember all their names, but I especially want to thank Rafaela, Sofia, Manuel, and Catarina for their kindness, smiles, and exceptional hospitality.

The mattress was so comfortable, and I slept really well. All the hotel staff were amazing, especially the front desk team, who gave me such a wonderful experience. I chose this place to celebrate my birthday, and they thoughtfully prepared a brownie for me. I feel so grateful 💕 I’ll definitely visit Porto again next time.

The room was spacious and nice, and the staff were polite and friendly. We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel, so I can’t comment on it. But I’m not sure this place meets five-star standards. I’ve stayed at five-star hotels in several countries, and this felt a bit below that level. The room was very dark, with the carpet and decor making it feel even darker in sunny daytime. The carpet didn’t seem to help with cleanliness either. It didn’t feel very clean when we arrived. I asked them to clean it again, but a reddish mark, like lipstick or wine, was still on the desk and the floor didn’t look freshly cleaned. The bathroom felt old, with cracked tiles in places and signs of rust and moisture damage. On the first night, we found a bug in there early in the morning, and it disappeared into the tiles. That was unpleasant. Even in an old building, I’d expect regular pest control at a five-star hotel. The layout wasn’t practical either: the toilet and bidet were far apart, and the gap between the shower and toilet area was quite narrow. It wasn’t a satisfying stay for us. The hotel needs renovation, and I wouldn’t choose it again.

The food district is close by, which was a big plus for me, and I’ll certainly come back next time I visit Porto. The staff were excellent, and lots of little touches showed how much they cared about my experience, like a small sweet from the chef and a personalized thank-you. One note for management: the shower door in room 212 tends to leak water onto the floor, even after cleaning. A guest could slip when first entering the room, especially if they’re elderly.

The riverfront is just a block away, and there are shops and restaurants all over this centrally located area. We stayed for 3 nights, and the staff were wonderful with suggestions, especially when we needed to travel out of town. Everyone at the front desk shared useful information. Breakfast was good, and we met lots of other guests. Renata always greeted us with a smile and a chat. My Effie and I had a great stay. Ken and Adele
