The White Box House

The room was huge and lovely, with good curtains, and the location worked well. The bed was very hard, breakfast was basic, and sound carried badly, especially from the room above. After 4 p.m. you have to call to get the lockbox code for your key. You can leave bags after checkout, but they’re just in the hallway where other guests can reach them. Ours were fine.

The staff were so welcoming, even waiting for us when we arrived after midnight. We got helpful suggestions for restaurants, snacks and things to do at check-in, and the woman at breakfast shared a few local tips while we chatted. It’s right in central Porto, with historic sights nearby and easy to explore on foot. The rooms and decor have a charming, tasteful feel. Breakfast is included and fairly basic, but there’s what you need to start the day, and the brioche croissants were really good. I’d gladly recommend staying here.

Hugo was a big help when we arrived, giving us a map plus tips on food and sights. The place is easy to reach from the station, beautifully decorated and clean. You can walk to all the main sights, and public transport is close by for going farther. Breakfast was very good, with huge fresh pastries, yogurt, cereal, fruit, bread, cheese and coffee. Glad we stayed here :)

The location was good, but there wasn’t any reception service. We had to call to get the lockbox code for the keys instead of receiving it by email. The room was really small, and we could hear other people through the walls late into the night. I don’t think it was worth the price.
