Hotel Contriz

Out of the four hotels we stayed in around here, two of them four-star, this was one of the best. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, and breakfast was included and spot on. The one small issue is that it’s very hard to get a hot drink with skimmed milk anywhere in this part of Portugal. My wife needs skimmed milk, and during the four weeks we’ve been here because our car broke down, she’s hardly had a hot drink.

We had a wonderful stay. Manuel and Sergio were generous hosts and helped us find a delicious restaurant down the road.

The people were the best part. After a long day walking the Camino, we were greeted kindly and given a large bottle of cold water. A kind gentleman at the desk helped us order delivery, offered peanuts, and poured wine for us. Sergio was incredibly friendly, as were the others working there, and he kindly insisted on driving us to the Camino trail in the rain. Our room was spacious and clean, the shower pressure was amazing, and breakfast was plentiful and good. It was a great place to stay.

This family-run “home”stay felt like home, even though I came by taxi. The team were caring and friendly, and the rooms, bedsheets, pillowcases, and bathroom were cleaned every day. The air conditioning worked really well. There’s a Sunday market to visit, which you’d love if you’re from Asia. It’s close to the Camino walk, and you can cycle too, with beautiful skies and trails. The lovely beach is nearby, with the Atlantic waves greeting you on the shore. Strongly recommended. I’ll return.
