The gardens and cloisters give you strong backdrops, and the old architecture has a look all its own. I’ve photographed weddings at Hotel Convento de São Paulo, and the light works beautifully for both outdoor ceremonies and quieter indoor moments. It’s a dependable Alentejo setting for couples who want something elegant and full of history.

We got married here a few years ago, and we still return now and then for anniversaries and date nights. The restaurant has changed owners, and I’ve noticed a real improvement in both the range and quality of the food. The staff are kind and helpful, the hotel is gorgeous, and the venue made a wonderful place for our wedding. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

The old convent building is amazing, and there are two pools in lovely settings. The staff were especially kind and helpful. A really nice hotel.

Both pools are lovely, each in its own way, and I’d recommend taking a walk along the nearby "passadiços". I had a great stay. Breakfast could use some improvement, and the breakfast room felt a little dark.

The attentive service comes with sweeping views across the Alentejo plains. Inside, there’s a vaulted refectory restaurant, long corridors lined with mural tiles, and a grotto chapel. The old Dominican convent, now a characterful hotel, also has a cloister, stone arches, and a vaulted adega with talhas and oak barrels. It dates to the 17th century, with origins reaching back to the 5th, and sits above Redondo on the Serra de Ossa.
